Congratulates our 2012 Scholarship Winners
May 2012 – This elite group of winners was selected from 55 applicants. A few changes were made this year – earlier requirement of essays and applications and an expanded application process. Not only was an essay required, but a check-off form was designed to help the applicants with their essays and the applicant needed to have someone recommend them.
Alrick Crowe, Honeywell Sponsor – 4 time winner. Alrick completed his last semester at the New York City College of Technology, Brooklyn, NY – He expects to receive a GPA of 3.5 and he’ll graduate with honors. He plans to continue his education at Iona College Hagan School of Business, New Rochelle, NY. Alrick is currently an educator, mentor, advisor and sometimes a father figure to many young men and women who are attending the same school that he attended 6 years ago. Alrick was a graduate of Alfred E. Smith High School and went thru the SVA Program.
Zachary Baylor, Weil-McLain – attends PA College of Technology, Williamsport, PA – his instructor Dale Kissinger recommended Zach because of his character, helpful attitude towards others and he expects he will be an asset to the trade. While in high school, Zach got a job with Eco Air Mechanical Systems, Turbotville, PA and continues working for them while in college.
Thomas Dias, Delavan – attends Hazleton Area Career Center and plans to continue his studies at Fortis Institute, Forty Fort, PA. He is an excellent student and on the National Honor Society. He has been a participant in OESP sponsored competitions.
Roger Bruso, R.E. Michael Sponsor – Roger grew up in the home heating industry – he is the son of Len Bruso, a member of the Pioneer Valley Chapter. He currently attends the Springfield Technical Community College and his field of study is Energy Systems Technology. He was a Boy Scout for 13 years and earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 2011.
Robert Papale, James McComas Award – Robert is a student at Saunders Technical School, Yonkers, NY. He has his NORA Bronze certificate. He has participated in our industry’s competitions and an honor student for the past 3 years. He plans to go to Jonson& Wales University, Providence RI and study engineering.
Joe Arrenegado, Taco Sponsor – currently attends New England Institute of Technology, Warwick, RI. Joe is embarking on a new career after having lost his job of 15 years as a master model-maker. He’s been on the Dean’s list four times and has perfect attendance. He recently took the exam for his PJF license and received a 97% and he is has his NORA Bronze Certificate. This scholarship will enable Joe to go to the next step and that is acquiring his associate’s degree.
