2016 Scholarship Winners
May 24, 2016 – At the 2016 Eastern Energy Expo at Foxwoods, OESP recognized the Dave Nelson Scholarship Award Winners:
Shaun Maher – This is the start of a second career for Shaun. For 20 years, Shaun was a PGA professional. At the age of 35, he decided to take the advice of his late grandfather who was an electrician, enter the HVAC-R industry. Shaun has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Methodist University.
Shaun believes that the experience he has gained over the past 20 years in the golf industry directly correlates to a career in the HVAC-R field – customer service, hard work ethic, dependability, reliability and commitment to the job. Shaun sees himself graduating from ENTECH and then ultimately working for a family owned company. Shaun is from Cromwell, CT.
Jason Wakefield – Jason currently attends Manchester Community College. He is working towards an Associate’s degree and maintains a 3.9 GPA. Jason already has his NORA Bronze certificate, gas trainee license and continually strives for excellence. Jason worked in a couple of industries prior to finding a new career that he is passionate about – the HVAC field. Jason sums up what interests him the most about the field of HVAC – he is able to support his young son with good pay and benefits, he enjoys problem solving associated with troubleshooting, working with his hands, the challenges of ever-changing technology and helping other people. Jason is from Tilton, NH.
Thomas Daros, Jr (Teddy) – Teddy is from North Salem, NY and a two time winner. He attends Pennsylvania College of Technology, Williamsport, PA. His Uncle Bob and his dad own Heritage Fuel and Propane. Since last year, Teddy has changed his earlier goal of working towards an Associate’s degree in HVAC. He has changed his major to HVAC design so that he can earn his Bachelor’s degree and also minor in small business management and entrepreneurship. His long term goal is to be as successful as his father and uncle. Teddy’s average GPA is 3.5 and has earned him Dean’s list recognition.
Devin Laliberte – Devin is from East Haddam, CT and a student at Porter and Chester Institute, Rocky Hill CT. Devin’s interests have always in been the trades. He worked for his father and grandfather in construction using equipment and learning how to be a good worker. In high school he took as many shop classes as possible. It wasn’t until his senior year that he realized that HVAC-R was the direction that he was most interested in. He liked the fact it is complex enough to keep him interested. Over the next 5-10 years, Devin would like to pursue more education in green energy. Devin holds a 3.5 GPA.
Michael Boylston – Michel too attends the PA College of Technology, Williamsport, PA and is a three time winner. He is from Carmel, NY. Michael is a senior and maintains a 3.8 GPA and majors in the HVAC Program. He has worked the past two summers for Trane Company in New York City as an intern.
